According to CCTV International News, US President Trump said on the afternoon of March 5, local time, that he hopes to end the war with Iran first, and then “Cuba is only a matter of time.”
Trump made the statement while attending an event at the White House with the Inter Miami Football Club. He said Cuba was “very desperate to reach a deal” and said the situation in Venezuela had been “stable” and praised Venezuela’s current acting president, Delcy Rodriguez.

On February 28, Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez stated that the US-Israeli attack on Iran “violated Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” and that the relevant actions were “irresponsible” and undermined international peace and security.
According to a previous report by China News Service, after the United States forcibly took control of Venezuelan President Maduro, Venezuela has stopped supplying crude oil to Cuba, and the energy crisis facing Cuba has further worsened. On January 29, Trump signed an executive order threatening to impose ad valorem tariffs on goods exported to the United States from countries that provide oil to Cuba. On February 6, Cuba announced a series of measures to respond to the new round of U.S. oil blockade.
The day before the air strike on Iran, Trump said on the 27th that the United States was negotiating with Havana and raised the possibility of a “friendly takeover of Cuba”, but did not make any specific explanation of its meaning.
Trump said that U.S. Secretary of State Rubio was having “very high-level” talks with Cuban leaders. “The Cuban government is negotiating with us.” Trump said, “They don’t have money right now… but they are talking to us, maybe we can achieve a friendly takeover of Cuba.” The report pointed out that although Trump did not clarify the meaning of his remarks, it seemed to imply that the situation in Cuba was reaching a tipping point.
